Ponds For Kids Pictures

At the start of the day, none of the kids believed that they could and would build a beautiful pond with a waterfall and stream in just one day!
Ponds For Kids is not only for the kids.  Look at the man in the black t-shirt bent over in the center of this picture.  He is the head of the Science Department of Alameda High School.  He did a wonderful job getting the ball rolling and had a blast taking part in the building of the pond.

Digging a pond 11' x 16' x 2' with a 10' stream is tough work.  So some of the kids take few moments and just play in the dirt.  Proving that to be a true child, you have to get dirty.
This group of kids takes their time going back to classes, as the next group makes their way to the rock pile.  This lone boy removes the last couple shovel fulls of dirt from the completely ecavated pond.  Notice the distinct shelfs in the pond.  The kids learn while building the pond that different aquatic plants like to be at different depths of water.
And in just one day, these kids have done an absolutlety wonderful job building their fully functional aquatic ecosystem.  The teahcers will use this as an outdoor teaching tool.  The kids will actually look forward to and enjoy learning.  While the head principal will enjoy the soothing sights and sounds, since the water fall and pond are right outside his office window (NICE!).

A few of the kids stick around even when the sun is starting to set, so they can show off how much fun they had creating their own legacy for future students of Alameda High School.
These photographs are from the Ponds For Kids done at Alameda High School in 2003.  You and your school could be featured in the next pictures shown on the website and PFK literature.
